In my quest for a route that avoids big cities as much as possible, I found out that I can "easily" bypass the city of Graz in Austria by climbing two mountain passes. Although the passes were not too high, there was still plenty of steep uphill. In fact this was the day of the tour with the most altitude gain! In order not to exhaust myself, I did not push hard on uphills. In fact I pushed my bicycle on the steepest sections.
