Brasov - Trail Distances Map

Here is an useful map that I use to calculate the distances of my trail running routes. It includes most popular trails on the mountains around Brasov, from the old city, up to Postavarul Mountain top.

The distances are carefully measured with the path measuring tool in Google Earth. Where the roads and trails are hidden by trees, I used GPS recorded tracks as guide for the measurements.

The dots on the map mark main crossroads. In order to keep the map clean and simple, I used straight lines to mark the trails. Winding routes with many bends appear to be much shorter on this map than in reality.

Most of the times when I run on the hills and mountains around Brasov I do not carry a GPS with me. It does not make much sense as I know the distances of most trails and I try to enjoy the nature not my gadgets. Yet I am still curious about the distances I run. Here is a table I put together; it helps me to calculate the length of my routes. It contains the distances of many trail sections between main cross-roads. The table can be used when planning a route or after a run to calculate the route length. The distances are precisely measured with Google Earth. I am going to add more trails as a few are still missing. I just want to double check the distances before publishing. I may add in the future a column for the accumulated elevation gain.
